Air-Microfluidics is a new multidisciplinary field encompassing microfluidic circuits that use gas as opposed to liquid as the working fluid. Air-microfluidic lab-on-a-chip devices can be used as inexpensive yet reliable methods for detecting the presence of harmful contaminants and gasses in the air. Applications include portable particulate matter monitors, portable methane detectors, airborne bio-aerosol and pathogen sensors, environmental monitoring, and healthcare diagnostics.
