ECE 412 - Introduction to Filter Synthesis

Description:  Credit 3U/4G. Fundamentals of network synthesis, filter approximations and frequency transformations. Active filter synthesis using bi-linear and bi-quad circuits. Topics in computer-aided design.

Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in ECE 310

1. S-domain transfer functions, frequency response, filter types and specifications

2. Bilinear transfer functions and passive/active realizations

3. Classical approximations to the ideal lowpass filter response: Butterworth, Chebyshev, Inverse Chebyshev, Cauer (elliptical); delay filters (Bessel)

4. Frequency scaling, impedance scaling, frequency transformations

5. Cascade synthesis, biquadratic active filter types

6. Passive ladder filters, ladder simulation using active networks

7. Switched capacitor filters
